We built this school. Help us bring it back to life.
In Begbé, north of Tsévié, Midezon-Togo built a three-classroom school: it all began in summer 2017, when six Togolese volunteers and three international volunteers laid its foundations. Today it needs renovating. And this work camp goes beyond the walls: holiday classes for the children, social and cultural activities, and donations — school supplies and more — shared with the villagers.

first work camp in Begbé: the school’s foundations
Why this work camp exists
Because a school is built once, but needs care forever
We built this school with the village. Classrooms in good condition and sturdy furniture are what make children want to come back every morning — and what make families proud of their school.
Hand in hand with Begbé
Village craftsmen and residents, Togolese volunteers, volunteers from abroad: the work is supervised by local craftsmen, and the activities are prepared with Midezon’s Togolese team.
A work camp, and much more
Renovating the three classrooms in the morning; holiday classes and activities with the children in the afternoon; and, during the stay, sharing donations with the villagers.
Four ways to make a difference in Begbé
For three weeks, everyone finds their place: hands in the mortar, at the blackboard with the children, or at the heart of the celebrations.
Renovate the three classrooms
Painting, masonry, furniture: the work is led by the village craftsmen. No skills are required — they teach you the techniques.
Teach holiday classes
During the school holidays, children consolidate what they have learned before the new school year. You support the Togolese team: reading, maths, educational games.
Bring the village to life
Games, songs, dances, storytelling, sport: social and cultural activities with the children and families that turn every afternoon into a celebration.
Share the donations
School supplies and other donations, gathered thanks to you, are handed over to the people of Begbé. Back in 2017, the work camp already ended with a big celebration and a distribution of clothes.
What these three weeks will reveal to you
- The joy of renovating a school Midezon built with its own hands — and of seeing the children get back classrooms they can be proud of.
- The skills you will learn from the village craftsmen: mortar, rendering, painting… even if you have never held a trowel.
- What you learn yourself by helping a child get ready for the new school year during the holiday classes.
- How it feels when a whole village comes to greet “a tired but happy team”: that was Begbé, in August 2017.
- Pâte shared at lunchtime, Togo’s national dish, and your first words of Ewe learned between two brushstrokes.
- How three weeks in Begbé become a real line on your CV — construction, teaching, youth work, project management. A mission attestation is issued on request.

Begbé, summer 2017: the foundations of our school
July 2017: after a year spent raising the funds, six Togolese volunteers and three international volunteers come to Begbé to build a new building for the public primary school. Four weeks of work — posts, formwork, rebar, concrete — and, despite the rain and some missing technicians, the foundation is finished on schedule. The work camp ends with a big celebration with the village children and a distribution of clothes: building and sharing already went hand in hand.

The villagers came in numbers to greet a tired but happy team. Akpé kaka — thank you so much!

No. Holiday classes are prepared with Midezon’s Togolese team: you support them according to your interests and skills.
How much does it cost to volunteer building schools in Togo?
